Flames Against The Sky

from Dystopia by Counterweight

lyrics

BURN

Oil fields are burning
Bullets fly at the break of day
Another bomb explodes in the street
Half a world away

This is the world we live in
That they urge us to deny
Blinded by our own consumption
While the rest are left to die

Our eyes are blind as the black smoke starts to rise
Our eyes are blind to the flames against the sky

You single out other cultures
Trying to place the blame
All the while behind your backs
Tyrants fan the flames

Safety is a thin veneer
Your life is up for sale

Our eyes are blind as the black smoke starts to rise
Our eyes are blind to the flames against the sky

Only until we face the mirror will we see the eyes of our own enemy

We have met the enemy, and he is us

MEANING: Apathy is a major plague in the United States. Living in a free society thinking we're eternally "safe" within our borders has made us blind to what's going on the rest world (much of which is caused by those who lead our own nation). While we're busy staring at screens and consuming good the flames of war are building around us hour by hour.
