1.
BURN Oil fields are burning Bullets fly at the break of day Another bomb explodes in the street Half a world away This is the world we live in That they urge us to deny Blinded by our own consumption While the rest are left to die Our eyes are blind as the black smoke starts to rise Our eyes are blind to the flames against the sky You single out other cultures Trying to place the blame All the while behind your backs Tyrants fan the flames Safety is a thin veneer Your life is up for sale Our eyes are blind as the black smoke starts to rise Our eyes are blind to the flames against the sky Only until we face the mirror will we see the eyes of our own enemy We have met the enemy, and he is us MEANING: Apathy is a major plague in the United States. Living in a free society thinking we're eternally "safe" within our borders has made us blind to what's going on the rest world (much of which is caused by those who lead our own nation). While we're busy staring at screens and consuming good the flames of war are building around us hour by hour.
2.
Slaughter awaits the mindless Pledge your allegiance To the bars on your cage Throat cut, bleeding On the flag, in your name Citizen cattle Your freedom's on the chopping block Citizen cattle Swinging your own axe Pass the collection plate And fall down to your knees Say a prayer to the techno-gods While they prepare to feast The more you spend the more you save Just pledge obedience Sign your name on the dotted line Like a proper patriot Citizen cattle Your freedom's on the chopping block Citizen cattle Swinging your own axe There is no safety There is no guarantee There is just an endless march A slaughter of minds Drop to your knees Swing your own axe Sign your life away And set your mind ablaze You have nothing to lose but your chains MEANING: This song is about how consumerism has overtaken our society. The middle class is chained, one by one, to mountains of debt all just to possess the latest and greatest thing. We are kept in a systematic class system with chains stained dollar-bill green.
3.
A legacy of swaying nooses Innocent people/stolen lives You turn the other cheek to the past While city blocks are gentrified Migrants slave the fields Unarmed kids die in the streets Victims of failed solutions That all of you refuse to see No matter what they tell you Or what you believe From the depths of this nation Hate still breathes 200 years / the wound still bleeds 200 years / hate still breathes Equality and civil rights Far gone words to another lie That you know only adhere To significant shades of white No matter what they tell you Or what you believe From the depths of this nation Hate still breathes 200 years the wound still bleeds 200 years hate still breathes Cut open your veins and see We all bleed the same red blood Same red bood MEAING: Racism. It is a disease that the US has still not cured. Now, more than ever, it seethes from the underbelly of American society and the reality we face is that this plague is gaining momentum once again. A fact that is equally embarrassing and terrifying.
